Incredible experience the one lived this weekend with the arrival of the Old Blues Football Club, with which we have played not one but two trophies (the first one, the Gatting Cup 2011, took place on saturday’s morning and Tojú C.F. won it, after obtaining several victories for 8 - 2  at the semifinal and for 4 goals to 1 at the final, with Ory obtaining the Golden Boot award), although the most important trophy of the two was the Sunday’s Copa Old Azules.

A bright day and an suffocating heat were the scenary during all the match, with goal opportunities on both sides  in a very intense game that ended with 2 - 1.

Old Blues started very strong, realising an exhausting pressure and not leting Tojú play the ball. Nevertheless, the `reds´ managed to create goal ocassions thanks to Valiente, who was the one breaking through Old Blues’ defense.

A ball lost in the blues creation provoked a red counter-attack initiated by Ory and José which the latter ended with a great shot before the goalkeeper could reach him.

A few minutes later, a break though of Valiente left him alone to put the ball on José’s head and score the second goal of the game.

Anyway, Old Blues did not fall down and stood up, starting to focus their game through Eugene helped by Dominic, and with Stephen and Marc Ashmore as their attack references, who managed to create goal opportunities.

Stephen was not able to score a one on one thanks to an incredible save of Jorge ,and some minutes afterwards, again Jorge saved his team after a very good head of Eugene.  On the other hand, Mariano shot to the high post in a long distance foul and some minutes later Ory’s shoot after a good combination rebounded into the goalmouth.

Second half was clearly for the Old Blues. After their talk, they went back to the field very motivated and willing to show their value. With their captain James Onumonu leading the Old Blues defense, Eugene dressed up as Xavi and started to give all kind of passes to Marc, Stephen and Mark Davey.

But it would be a pass to Andy Whitlingham the one that would make Old Blues score their first goal with a great crossed shoot of Andy that Jorge could not touch despite his full-length save. 2 - 1.

Heat started to fatigate Tojú and decided to change to a tactic of 4 - 4 - 2, trying to control the opponent’s attack game with a very good work of Jordi, in a match that became more intense during the last 25 minutes  as a result of their best physical condition.

Nevertheless, the scoreboard would remain the same until the end of the game, and Tojú managed to become Copa Old Azules’ champion, increasing his Record of Achievements.

After the match, both teams had dinner together as they did on saturday night, as a result of the brotherhood that exists between the English and the Spanish teams.

It was a magnificient weekend, an incredible experience and an indelible memory for Tojú Club de Fútbol’s history. Thanks to Old Blues Football Club, who we expect to see again soon with a return game at London or at Madrid, because this weekend for Tojú has worth more than a trophy.
